As Project Coordinator here at District 2 Community Council, I also work with Crime Prevention. I would like to take this time to stress the importance of having a Block Club in your area. I will be working with neighbors, St Paul Police, and the city to help form new block clubs and addressing incidents that occur in District 2.

Sometimes this is not an easy task to do. I encourage neighbors to start their block clubs before they have an issue or problem to deal with. Hopefully this will prevent some issues from arising.

First, all you need to do is make that initial phone call to either me, Chris Anderson, at 651-774-2220, or to the Crime Prevention F.O.R.C.E. office at the St Paul Police Department at 266-5625. We will then help you set a date that is convenient for you and a location to have the meeting. In the summer and fall months, many people meet in their neighborhood back yards, garages, driveways, area community center, or in their home. In the colder months many choose to hold the meeting at an area church, community center, or library. Once we coordinate a date and location, either the S.P.P.D., or I will make fliers to distribute in your neighborhood..

Being a block club member means you are willing to call the police if you see something happening in your neighborhood that doesn’t look right to you. You’ll meet your neighbors and therefore recognize the people who live around you. I often tell people getting to know your neighbors doesn't mean having to give your personal life story to each other, it only means that you’ll recognize the person trying to get into the homes around you and call when something doesn’t look right.

Another one of my duties at the office is Recycling Coordinator. If you need bins or information, please call the office.
